Christianity Fears the New Age

This is the first version of an article I deleted before July 5.  I deleted it because I wanted to give it more thought. I'm replacing it with a few changes but basically in its original form. I'll follow it with another one based on the finished presentation of the Pontifical Council. I wish I had read the finished version before writing this article.

The world is stuck in the age of pisces

I get the feeling while reading the Pontifical Council’s document on New Age that the Christianity doesn’t know what is unique about its own teachings.  Or perhaps the writers of this document were not clear about who they were addressing.  Either way, the document gives the impression that Christianity fears the New Age.  There’s no need to fear the New Age.  Aquarius may be more compatible with Christianity than Pisces was.

The problem that the Council should have addressed is the fact that the world is stuck in the Age of Pisces.  Evidence of a wrong turn can be found in the increasing influence of Hermeticism at a time when it should be fading away.

Hermeticism Should Not be Increasing

Hermeticism is not compatible with the Age of Aquarius.  The Age of Aquarius is ruled by Saturn and Saturn is the planet of Brahma.  Siva/Hermes ruled Pisces, the age that is passing away.

Brahma and Siva/Hermes have different characteristics and preside over different types of societies.  Siva/Hermes is associated with Hermeticism; Brahma is not.  Hermeticism should not be increasing.

Why Doesn’t the Pontifical Council Deal with These Things?

Perhaps the Pontifical Council doesn’t deal with these things because Christianity denies that an astronomical age can have real effects in the world.  If so, Christians are right and wrong at the same time.  The New Age will have real effects in the world, but the Church is the remedy.

What does an Age of the World Mean to Jesus?

I don’t consider Brahma and Siva/Hermes to be gods, but I think they have a type of reality.  Jesus knew that the human race is confronted by two competing orders or types of justice: the Justice of the Rupture and the Justice of the Whole.  The Church (the Justice of the Rupture) needs to tell us how the human race is expected to exist in a cosmic order ruled by the Age of Aquarius (the Justice of the Whole).

The Secular World is Equally Mistaken

Why is the secular world unaware that its expectations of the New Age are in error?  Maybe because it doesn’t understand the importance of the Planet Saturn in myth and religion.  At the beginning of the Age of Pisces, Siva/Hermes claimed Saturn for himself because it was central to the religious system that legitimated his rule.  However, Saturn is not his Planet.  Saturn is Brahma’s planet.  Brahma will rule over the Age of Aquarius.  She will reign over the cosmic order.  (Edward Moor called Brahma ‘she’.) ((Edward Moor F.R.S., The Hindu Pantheon, T. Bensley, Bolt-Court, Fleet Street, 1810))

Madame Blavatsky was Wrong

The significance of the planet Saturn was either not understood by Helena Blavatsky, founder of the Theosophical Society, or it was deliberately obscured.  The result: the Theosophists did not usher us in to the new age; they saddled us with a hashed-over version of Saivism.  The entire effort was a waste of time because the coming age does not belong to Siva/Hermes.  Madame Blavatsky was wrong and her efforts resulted in real damage.

Blavatsky’s writings contributed to the racism of the Nazi Party.  They were also influential in modern physics.  Her determination to rehabilitate Lucifer/Siva as the god of the New Age turned him into the patron of the Bomb.  This association is problematic, aside from the fact that the age of Lucifer/Siva is over.

It’s true that one of Siva’s names is The Destroyer, but Siva’s destruction is not annihilation.  It is the destruction wrought by time.  The Bomb on the other hand, is all about annihilation.  Stupidity upon stupidity!

What will the New Age Look Like?

Christianity fears the New Age, but it seems to me that the Age of Aquarius is not any more in conflict with Christianity than Pisces was.  Aquarius might be more compatible with Christianity.

Don’t Fear the New Age

Section 6 of the Pontifical Council’s document says, there is a choice to be made between Aquarius and Christ.  I agree.

New Age movements have been celebrating the coming of Aquarius.  But I’m sure they didn’t expect it to begin with an environmental and economic crisis.  That’s one of the risks of making predictions.  The New Age movements capitulate to the cosmic order even if they misinterpret it.

If Christianity fears the New Age, we should probably take it seriously as well.  We don’t know what the New Age will bring.  But we do know the remedy.

Section 1.5:

If the Church is not to be accused of being deaf to people’s longings, her members need to do two things: to root themselves ever more firmly in the fundamentals of their faith, and to understand the often-silent cry in people’s hearts, which leads them elsewhere if they are not satisfied by the Church.  there is also a call in all of this to come closer to Jesus Christ and to be ready to follow Him, since He is the real way to happiness, the truth about God and the fulness of life for every man and woman who is prepared to respond to his love.
